The popular PlentyOfFish dating site is being acquired by the Match Group. The Match Group is a subsidiary of IAC and operates multiple dating sites including Match.com, Tinder and OKCupid. The purchase prise is $575 million in cash.

Plenty of Fish has remained a very popular dating site despite new competition from dating apps. It has 90 million registered users and over 3 million active daily users. 50,000 new singles are added to the site on a daily basis.

The site was founded Markus Frind. He grew the site out of his apartment in Vanouver. Frind says in a statement, "We are thrilled to be joining forces with Match. My team and I have grown PlentyOfFish into one of the leaders in our category, and I am confident that Match will help accelerate our growth even further."

IAC says over 7 million people sign up to its Match Group dating sites each month. That figure will grow to 8.5 million with the PlentyOfFish acquisition. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that IAC is planning an IPO for its matchmaking business. The acquisition of PlentyofFish should help make the IPO more attractive.
